è un musical rock scritto da James Rado e Gerome Ragni (testi) e Galt MacDermot (musica).
Rappresenta il prodotto forse più importante della controcultura hippie degli anni sessanta: il suo imponente successo ha significato un autentico terremoto nella cultura sessuale statunitense e ha contribuito a diffondere l'opposizione pacifista alla guerra del Vietnam (numerose sue canzoni sono diventate autentici inni dell'opposizione all'interventismo USA).
Hair ha inoltre contribuito alla ridefinizione del musical theatre, partorendo il genere del musical rock o rock opera

 La celebre canzone, un inno della contro-cultura californiana, dei figli dei fiori e degli hippy, arrivata alla cultura di "serie A" attraverso prima il musical "Hair" ("Capelli") del 1969, del quale è il tema principale, poi del film omonimo di Milos Forman del 1979, quando la fase hippy era ormai abbondantemente finita (praticamente già una operazione nostalgia), era interpretata nel musical dai 5th Dimension, che la portarono al successo internazionale (6 settimane al numero 1 in USA, 3 milioni di copie vendute).
